Bath City Sound? What’s the score then?
Bath City Sound is a not for profit online Radio Station serving the communities of Bath and beyond. It gives young people and like minded individuals, the opportunity to actively take part in radio broadcasting and the creation of their own shows and features.
This is the chance to give local inhabitants the opportunity and a platform with which they can develop their creative flair, improve their communication skills and enhance their social proficiencies, all whilst learning new competencies in a safe and controlled environment
The 3 main aims of Bath City Sound are to:
The Bath City Sound project is supported and run by a group of radio professionals with over 140 years of collective knowledge and experience ranging from BBC, commercial, community and hospital radio sectors as well as online digital media.
Well the whole idea was conceived in early 2010 but other things like the FM licence bid got in the way. The station has been in development since July of that year. It is now on air as of 08 10 12.
An online community radio station for Bath and its surrounding areas. Although broadcasting worldwide over the interweb, the content is specifically for the Bath area and other areas such as Keynsham, Saltford, Batheaston etc. There are some other areas within BA postcodes and we pop across to those when asked!
We are based in the centre of the City at the Bath Pavilion with our playout system in the cloud. Or sky if you want it in old money. We also have the unique ability to broadcast from pretty much anywhere in the world using our digital system.
In short because of necessity and because we can! Ofcom ( the lovely people that dish out FM licences ) have stated that Bath has too many FM operators in the area and consequently there are no more frequencies available so FM wasn’t an option. DAB is hideously expensive so the only option was online.
